NEHAWU Supports call for Union of European Football Associations to reverse its decision to host 2013 U21 Soccer Championship in Apartheid Israeli
19 June 2012
NEHAWU joins millions of people around the world in calling on UEFA to reverse its decision to host the 2013 U21 Championships in Israeli. The Israeli regime does not deserve the honour of hosting these games because of its apartheid policies.
It is our belief, that Israel’s practices against the Palestinian people are in breach of the prohibition on apartheid under international law.
We call on the South African government, especially the Minister of Sport, Fikile Mbalula, to support the call for the reversal of this decision by UEFA .They have also been deporting black immigrants out of Israeli because of the colour of their skin.
All of us have a moral responsibility to speak out against the abuse of Palestinians by the Israeli government and also stop the crime of silence.
South Africa benefited from the international solidarity during its fight against apartheid and we need to support the struggle for a free Palestine.
We reaffirm our solidarity with the people of Palestine and we are calling for an end to the military aggression against innocent Palestinians. All political prisoners and detainees must be released immediately and we support the formation of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital. The Israelis must affirm the right of Palestinian refugees to return to their homeland.
